Meet the Team : Tish Marsh

What has been your career journey to date?

Life has a funny way of leading us down unexpected paths, and my career journey is a testament to just that. I used to be a professional ice dancer representing Great Britain, but due to unforeseen physical health issues, my skating career came to an early end. Little did I know that this setback would become the catalyst for an incredible new chapter in my life.

To hone my skills, I embarked on a Bachelor of Arts in Animation at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol. However, while studying animation, I discovered my true passion wasn't solely in the creative process but in the production side of the industry. I took on various work experience roles and started accepting small paid jobs within the production realm of animation and VFX. The learning curve was steep, but the satisfaction I gained from each project fuelled my ambition to succeed.

I was contacted for a role as a production coordinator at Lux Aeterna. It was a dream come true, a culmination of my hard work, dedication, and the resilience I had developed through my unique journey. Now, after two years, I have been promoted to Line Producer, which comes with increased responsibility and the trust of the company as they continue to grow.

What brought you to Lux Aeterna?

Our production manager at the time found my profile on LinkedIn. Although I didn't know they were hiring, Lux Aeterna’s industry reputation made their contact very compelling. Conversations with the Lux Aeterna production team shed light on their values, emphasising a culture of creativity, innovation, and teamwork. Their projects aligned well with my career ambitions, making the opportunity impossible to resist.

Tell us more about your roles and responsibilities as a Line Producer

As a VFX Line Producer, I am responsible for all aspects of visual effects production, from budget development and expense tracking to project scheduling. In this central role, I ensure the seamless execution of VFX projects by paying close attention to detail, being highly organised, and adapting to the ever-changing VFX industry. My ultimate goal is to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and creativity.

What does your typical day look like?

My typical day involves reviewing project timelines and schedules, and ensuring everything is on track. I then conduct daily meetings with each team to ensure we are all on the same page and focused on the appropriate priorities. Throughout the day, I work closely with both the creative and technical teams, addressing their needs and constraints and providing guidance as needed.

Efficient management of the project's budget is an ongoing task that involves meticulous expense tracking and resource allocation. Additionally, I maintain regular communication with clients to ensure the work we deliver aligns with the project's requirements. My role requires constant risk assessment and problem-solving to anticipate and mitigate any potential issues that may impact the project's progress.

What has your progression been like since joining Lux Aeterna?

I began my journey at Lux Aeterna as a Production Coordinator, eager to learn and contribute to the company. From the very start, I knew I wanted to make a meaningful impact, and I poured my heart and soul into every project. In August, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to take on more responsibility, earning the role of Line Producer. I remain grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to continuing my journey of growth and learning as I contribute to our team's continued success.

What’s the best thing about working in Bristol?

Bristol offers an eclectic mix of experiences that cater to all tastes and interests. The best thing about working in Bristol in my opinion is the ability to escape to rolling hills and gorgeous landscapes whilst being in the centre of a melting pot of cultures. It's a place where you can find the perfect work-life balance, enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding countryside, and be a part of an ever-evolving, dynamic cityscape.

What has been your favourite Lux Aeterna social event so far?

Among the many wonderful social events, my favourite one thus far was when we all gathered to play a board game and enjoyed a couple of drinks together. It was a cosy night filled with laughter, and a healthy dose of friendly competition. These events not only allow us to unwind and have a great time but also strengthen the bonds within our team.

What’s your favourite film and why?

What We Do in the Shadows - film and TV series

Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's distinctive amalgamation of wit and inventiveness in this mockumentary-style comedy film and series is truly commendable. The film's eccentric and dry humour, along with its innovative approach to vampire folklore, consistently captivates me. The characters are simultaneously relatable and hilariously unconventional, facilitating an effortless empathy towards their everyday challenges despite their otherworldly existence.

What’s your dream production project?

My ideal production position is located at the intersection of my strong interest in natural history and my passion for wildlife documentaries. There is an exclusive appeal to capturing the awe-inspiring magnificence of the natural world and its various creatures on film. Furthermore, the idea of travelling is highly appealing to me, as it would enable me to delve into diverse ecosystems, cultures, and wildlife across the globe. This would provide a continuously enriching and evolving professional experience that seamlessly aligns with both my personal and career objectives.

What has been your favourite project you’ve worked on during your time at Lux Aeterna so far, and why?

My favourite was Ancient Powers due to the team and how smoothly it ran! It was also a very interesting project to work on and we all learnt a lot!
