Reno: Making a Virtual Production Film at The Sheds

Back in May, Lux Aeterna shot scenes for Reno, our sci-fi short film, at The Sheds. The Sheds are MyWorld’s innovation hub; a cutting-edge facility featuring a smart cinema, editing and live broadcast suites, a data centre, and an experimental studio, all based down in Bristol’s Temple Quarter.

The experimental studio features a 9m x 3.5m LED virtual production volume and a 220m2 stage area, making it the perfect fit for Reno. We worked with the team at The Sheds ahead of the shoot to overcome any technical challenges and plan to make the best of their studio, and I’m pleased to report that the shoot went swimmingly!

We utilised Unreal Engine to bring our strengths in crafting high-end VFX to the volume, creating beautiful, dynamic environments that could be captured on the studio’s high-end Sony Venice 2 cinema camera tracked by a 28-camera Vicon motion capture system.

I’m looking forward to sharing more behind the scenes stories from Reno over the coming months.
